Volunteering is a wonderful way to become acquainted in the community, as well as to lend assistance in a wide variety of worthy causes. Following are many - but not all - of those places which regularly use volunteers. Many of them will be grateful for just one-time help, or irregular or flexible hours, while others may require training and/or prolonged commitments.
Provides short-term help to needy people in the Estes Valley. Volunteers are welcomed for a wide variety of jobs, as well as are donations of money, food, and household paper goods. Contact Father Rex, director, or Sally Whyard, assistant director
The Elizabeth Guild was formed in 1972 by a group of women dedicated to building a hospital in Estes Park. Their efforts continue through the Thrift Shop, located at 443 West Elkhorn, which is run entirely by volunteer help, with all proceeds going to the support of our hospital. Talk to Dotie or Gloria
Provides crisis intervention for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, other crimes, as well as non-crimes such as unattended deaths, accidents, etc. Twenty hours of training provided. Volunteers wear pagers on nights and weekends. Contact Mary Mesropian.
Builds homes for lower income families. Help is needed not only for building homes but also in the office and with public relations; family nurturing (1 Yr. Commitment) ; hospitality; fund raising and development, and much more.
Not a shelter, the Christian-based Harvest House provides long term homes for women and their children who want to change their life, or are in need from behaviors or addictions. Their needs are in the area of supportive relationships. They need men who can act as substitute fathers or grandfathers during the summer or winter weekends or "Grandma's" who can rock babies. Hospice provides comfort care - medical, nursing, social, emotional and spiritual support - for persons with terminal illness. Hospice care helps the individual to live with dignity, free from pain and suffering, in their own home or place of residence. They emphasize quality of life, but do not prolong or hasten death. Following the death, bereavement care is available to the family/caregiver. Volunteers are carefully screened and well-trained. They are vital in helping provide services such as errands, sitting with the family or patient, light housekeeping and many other duties. The Senior Citizen's Center, located at 220 - 4th St., provides Meals on Wheels for seniors. To volunteer as a driver call Joyce Sader.
This huge holiday bazaar is the other fund raising activity of the Elizabeth Guild. It is held every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving at the Estes Park Conference Center. Booths of crafts, baked goods, quilting and white elephants are sold by various community groups who donate their profits to the Elizabeth Guild for the benefit of the hospital.
The Senior Center, located at 220 - 4th St., provides lunches, programs, and social activities for seniors. Volunteers are needed at the main desk and for other services. (Also see Meals on Wheels.)
Planting Projects. - Members' help is needed to maintain the large garden at MacGregor Ranch, as well as at the Senior Center and others. Contact Dorla Eisenlower
Volunteers perform a wide variety of tasks including the circulation desk; book mending, shelving books; Youth Dept. projects; and others. Flexible and/or irregular hours for regulars and subs. Contact Audrey Putney
The Chamber of Commerce "Ambassadors" often form the front line of visitors' initiation to our beautiful area. Training required. Contact Lloyd Maxwell
A nonprofit group, Farmers Market needs staffing throughout the summer. It runs every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 1 through Sept. 28h in the Estes Park Brewery parking lot. Contact Dorla Eisenlauer or Betsy Kirk.
Hundreds of people volunteer in the national park in numerous capacities each summer and throughout the year through its VIP (Volunteers in Parks) program. Just a few popular activities include trail maintenance, helping in the green house, the Elk Bugle Corps, and the Bighorn Brigade. Call the Volunteer Office for more information.
The Town sponsors or participates in many events for which volunteers are needed. Call Special Events.
The "Y" uses volunteers in all departments, including such areas as the Program Department, the library, the museum, the craft shop, housekeeping and the front desk. Irregular and flexible hours available. Contact Human Resources.
This is a non-profit gallery staffed completely by volunteers. Volunteers are needed to staff the gallery for three hours shifts. Training is provided. You can work as little as three hours a month and we are told that it is a "fun" position. Please contact Pauline Bustamante.
The collective art groups belonging to this Council utilize over 500 volunteers every year! (See a complete list of member organizations in the Trail-Gazette Community Resource Guide. These include oratorio, and various chamber, chorale, jazz, classical, youth, and other music groups.) You can help in the office, offer special help in music, dance, or children's programs, or do art education in a variety of fields. Volunteers are needed for the Sunday concerts during the winter and for the summer series. Volunteers assist by passing out programs, selling tickets and helping with refreshments during intermission. Contact Kaye or Gloria.
This theater group puts on plays each year and volunteers are needed for all aspects of theater production, from actors to ushers, to ticket sales, to backstage work. Contact Tim Phillips.
Volunteers are needed for new employee packet preparation, filing photocopying, and other paperwork. Training is provided. Contact Julie Wiggerman.
Volunteers are needed for clerical work, including chart processing, summarizing data, and answering the telephone. Contact Barb Wahl.
Volunteers are needed and the work is rewarding. They need help in all areas. Several mentioned in particular were 1-on-1 visitations, help with music and parties, and help with outings. Please contact the Activities Coordinator Kyle Knudson.

Located at 200 Fourth St., the museum needs volunteers, and time commitments vary. People are needed at the front desk to greet guests, to collect admission fees and to sell items in the bookstore; to host at the museum; and for special events. For anyone interested in volunteering on a regular basis, they need help in record keeping and data entry on the historical objects at the museum. Please call Susan Zietkiewicz.
Year-round, Spring and/or Summer opportunities are available to help as museum documents; with children's museum tours, wagon rides, or history camps; inventory and catalog of museum collection and the restoration and painting of historic farm equipment. Contact Laurie Mitchell.

An afternoon drop-in center for 6th- 12th grade youths. Volunteer help is needed for all types of arts and crafts, special programs, homework and other help. Contact, Barry Lawson.
Mentoring Program - Partner 1-on-1 with student ages 8 - 17 for three hours per week for one year commitment. Help with homework, invite for dinner, go to a movie, talk, etc. Background checks are done. Currently a waiting list of students. Contact Shannon.
After School Tutoring Program - 1-on-1 tutoring for middle school students on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-4:30 for a one-semester commitment. Must be 18 or older. Some training is provided. Contact Courtney.
After-School Reading Program - There is a waiting list of K-5 graders wanting 1-on-1 reading and literacy help from 3 - 4 p.m. One year commitment preferable for 1 or 2 days a week. Contact Suzanne Andres at Ext. 3170 or Sandra Life at Ext. 3172.
EP Elementary School - 586-9529 - General classroom assistants are always welcome, plus volunteers for their "Rockin' Readers" program - adults who literally sit in a rocking chair and read to the students - are very popular. Contact Principal John Waller at Ext. 3101.
EP High School - The high school utilizes volunteers in the library, chaperones for events, and at sporting events. Contact Dr. Carol Johnson at 586-2361.
Please remember that many churches, service clubs, special interest and support groups sponsor numerous other programs and events for which volunteers are needed. (See the yellow pages, Trail-Gazette Community Resource Guide for a listing these groups.)
